This is an excerpt from the book I am co-authoring called The Power To Change.

We humans are the only living creatures we know of who have been given the gift of being able to deliberately and consciously create what we want and change who we are and how we live our lives. Unfortunately, we seem to have forgotten that.

“Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better.”   —Whitney Young, Jr., American Militant Mediator

In order to comfortably move from where you are to where you want to be, you must embrace change. If you really want more, you cannot continue thinking and behaving in the same way and get something different. People want more, and they don’t want to make any changes! Yet, it is your very thoughts, beliefs and imaginings that have created your life the way it is now.

Often, even the mention of the word “change” makes most people uncomfortable. I have people in my workshops change seats after a break, and some people find just that small change difficult.

People are afraid of the unknown, and the reptilian part of your brain, which is the “fight or flight” part of the brain and is responsible for protecting us, views anything “unknown” as a possible danger.

When you think about changing, what comes up for you? Are you excited about it, or do you live in fear of what might happen? Do you start imagining the worst outcome, or do you imagine how much better things could be? Would you really be happy if five years went by and you were still the same, making the same amount of money, having the same kind of relationship or no relationship, with the same size body and still not living your dreams? Still claiming your limitations as obstacles?  Probably not.

Come back for more of my chapter and specific things you can do to ease into the change you are wanting.  Also, my book is available for purchase in paperback or downloadable.
